2010: The Year We Didn't Make Contact, But Got Some Nifty Things Done Anyway

Has anyone seen that film? 2010? The "sequel" to 2001? I actually liked it a lot lot better than 2001. Some may cry foul that it tries to explain 2001 too much, but if you're like me and do not like 2001 (but respect it), then it's a fun little "Oh, I see!" sorta thing.

Here's what I saw in 2010, and kinda sorta thought was cool.

In no real order.

- Toy Story 3 - I don't need to explain this one.

- The Town - Man, BAffleck! Stop surprising me with your filmmaking prowess.

- Inception - I was thinking about it for days afterwards, and talked about it even longer.

- Scott Pilgrim vs. The World - Razzle dazzle!

- The Social Network - A writer's wet dream.

- RED - I hear it departs from the book quite a bit, but I found the tone to be a breath of fresh air.

- Easy A - Emma Stone.

- Harry Potter 7.0 - Slow and incredibly unfulfilling as a stand-alone piece, but still an emotional trip for fans, no doubt.

- How To Train Your Dragon - A nice surprise. I hope Dreamworks takes notice and fashions all its films after this one, i.e. make them good.

- Black Swan - Another thought-provoking little film. Couldn't shake some of its images. A fun little thriller.

- Winter's Bone - Wow. Jennifer Lawrence has a bright, bright career ahead of her.

- Rabbit Hole - A nice change of pace in the "Grieving Parents" genre. Reminded me a lot of Wit, one of the best films ever made about death.

- Shutter Island - I liked the book better, but still a solid piece of B-movie Scorcese.

- Catfish - Tense little film. Hard to watch at points, but a nice counterpoint to The Social Network.

- The Ghost Writer - Didn't expect much from this after Polanski's boring Oliver Twist redux, but a slick thriller emerged, and won me over with its amazing ending.

- The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo - Probably the longest film on here, and probably the most engrossing. Too bad its sequel kinda sucked in comparison.

There's still a whole host of films I need/want to see. But, as of today, this is it.

Nice list. I loved girl with the dragon tattoo as well. Hopefully you'll be able to add True Grit. Saw it yesterday and it was fab!
