Gory Details

I finally saw The Monster Squad, a nice little gem from the 80s. I must say, considering it's 23 years old, it holds up quite nicely, thanks in part to some nice cinematography and some great make-up effects.

Also, I love a film that's not afraid to kill people to raise the stakes, especially a film that's geared towards 10 year old boys. What a rarity. Thank you for that, Shane Black.

My biggest gripe with the film had to be that I just couldn't get past the fact that Frankenstein (portrayed by theatre actor Tom Noonan) looks like the deformed twin brother of Michael Shannon.

I guess, in a sense, it helped me buy into Frankenstein's creepiness, since I find Michael Shannon to be quite unsettling to look at. Revolutionary Road, anyone?

No? Didn't see it? Count your blessings, my friends. Why? Because it's long and tedious. And because no one should ever have to witness anyone self-abort their unborn child and then proceed to bleed to death.

Oops. Spoiler alert.
